Nowhere and Vulnerability or Excavation

By Jeff Purchla

Nowhere

where do we go
to yell into the night

so that the only receptors
of our cries
are our own minds?

where do we go
to yell into the night

so that the echoes
in our minds
are dampened by

solitude?

where do we go
to yell into the night

so that our cries
are not met with
laughter
scorn
judgment
and negation?

where do we go
to yell into the night

so that we may
exist in peace
if not once and for all?

then
at least for once

Vulnerability or Excavation

dig deep
to discover fragile
remains.  beneath
shattered signals
choked
by weak breath.
between drunken courage
and sober defense.  dig deep
for petrified lives
glazed with distress.

layers of dust
and complexity
occupy the best
fools
with a sadness far
beyond their years.
